A group of 14 Irish Travellers have been recognised at a special ceremony after completing NUI Galway Access Centre’s first Educational Transition Project (ETP).

NUI Galway’s Access Programmes, which have been supporting students from backgrounds traditionally under-represented at third level education for more than 20 years, has announced that applications for this year’s Access Programme for School Leavers opens on August 1.

NUI Galway Access Centre provides pathways for current second level students who are generally under-represented at third level to progress to university. The Access Centre targets young adults who have a real desire to study at third level but are unable to do so due to financial or social reasons or because of a disability.

NUI Galway will host its autumn undergraduate open day this Saturday from 12 noon to 4pm. The event, which has been reimagined as a virtual event in line with current public health guidelines, will provide an extensive interactive online experience which will allow students, parents, and guidance counsellors to explore courses and careers and to connect with NUI Galway staff and students throughout the day.

NUI Galway will celebrate Irish Traveller Ethnicity Day by hosting the ‘Travellers in Education: Building a Sense of Belonging’ event on Wednesday, 26 February.
